PRE-OP (Host hospital):

Diagnostic testing must be completed and results sent 7 days prior to surgery.

Exam
Complete preoperative physical examination and assessment for anesthesia and surgery by the attending veterinarian.
CBC and Chemistry Profile (+/- urinalysis/culture) within 2 weeks of surgery (ill patient) or 2 months of surgery (healthy patient).
Diagnostic testing: radiographs, abdominal ultrasound, echocardiogram, CT or MRI, as needed.
Please feel free to contact us for recommendations regarding pre-operative testing.
Surgery Day
Please wipe down all surfaces in the OR (including surgical lamps) with a cleanser (ex. Clorox wipes) and mop the floor the day before or the morning of surgery.
The OR temperature should be cooled to 65-68 degrees Fahrenheit.
The patient should be admitted to the hospital at least 1 hour prior to scheduled time of surgery.
Anchor surgery consent form must be signed upon admission
Patient should be appropriately fasted:
No food after midnight the night before surgery. No water the morning of surgery. All medications should be given on the morning of surgery (can be given with a treat if necessary).
TPR MUST be recorded in medical record.
IV catheter placement, administration of pre-medicants, induction, shaving, dirty scrub, patient transfer.

SURGERY (ANCHOR):
Receive Referral
We look forward to discussing the case with you prior to surgery.
Surgery Day
We provide all surgical equipment, with the exception of suture material.
We will call 30min and 15min prior to arrival to facilitate coordination.
Upon arrival, we will prepare the OR, our instrumentation, and then assume patient care.
We will finalize patient preparation for surgery (positioning, sterile scrub).
We will provide anesthetic monitoring throughout the surgical procedure, and then transfer care back to the host hospital for recovery.
Communications
The surgeon will call the owner after surgery to describe the procedure and post-operative care.
We will provide detailed, custom discharge instructions for each patient.
POST-OP (HOST HOSPiTAL):
Patient Care
The host hospital provides patient monitoring and temperature management during anesthetic recovery.
All post-operative care until the time of patient discharge is performed by the host hospital.
If desired, the surgeon will provide recommendations for post-operative management including pain medications and antibiotics.
All medications are prescribed by the host hospital.
